LexiCon Tabletop Gaming Convention, now in its fourth year, is the first permanent game convention in Lexington, KY. This Experience is still held every spring in the wonderful Clarion Hotel and Convention Center on Newtown Pike. From the beginning, LexiCon’s mission was not just to be about gaming, but to make gaming exciting and enjoyable for everyone by focusing on fun and adventure, making sure there were many events for families during the day and adults throughout the weekend. Many activities make this more than just gaming, including our tremendous number of gaming events, Cosplay tournament, National and Local Tournaments, great gaming related vendors, adult gaming nights sponsored by West Sixth St. Brewery and The Barrel House, family gaming activities, and our unbelievable 1,400+ LexiCon Gaming Library (and growing).
Lexicon LLC was first envisioned in fall 2013 by Chris Grzywacz. With an enthusiastic response by fellow gamers Philip Holland and Greg Franseth, in the course of a matter of weeks, a company was established to operate the convention, a location was identified, a name chosen, and dates selected. As LexiCon grew, Philip Holland needed to withdraw, but his contribution is always appreciated. Due to its growth, LexiCon added other visionary gaming enthusiasts, Larry Estep, Rob Slevin, and Travis Reynolds. Their contributions allowed us to go from LexiCon, to Ninth Pawn Entertainment, the Parent Company for: LexiCon, CharCon, and CinCityCon Tabletop Gaming Conventions, providing entertainment fun in Kentucky, West Virginia, and southern Ohio throughout the year.
LexiCon has grown over the years and has added many great volunteers including coordinators like Jessie Dunne, Grace Northcutt, and Anne Amsden. Many of these people met up at the Meetup Site events for The Board Gaming Enthusiasts of Lexington Kentucky and The Monday Night Game Night at West Sixth. We would also like recognize some of the wonderful people like Kentucky Geek Girl, Paul Menzel, Emery Buterbaugh, Courtney Shinaberry, Dustin (DJ) Hutchins, Caysi Hinchcliff, Peggy Grzywacz, Ally Grzywacz, Roberta Burnes, John Walker, and Scott Cox, who have helped make this such a special event. We know we have not named all of the amazing volunteers, GMs and other contributors who make LexiCon possible, our apologies. LexiCon is all about and because of our awesome volunteers.
The staff have also determined that Lexicon should always contain a charitable element. Each year Lexicon will make efforts to support a local charity identified by the officers and we have chosen Lexington Big Brothers/Big Sisters as our focus the first four years. Lexicon also supports other charities such as The Jack Vasel Memorial Fund and local children’s hospitals.
Most importantly, Lexicon is about more than just gaming, but about an overall experience. If you have ideas about what would improve the overall experience of Lexicon, please feel free to share those thoughts with the Lexicon directors.
And finally, Lexicon is as much as anything a family of volunteers without any of whom the convention would not be possible. If you would like to join this family, please let us know by contacting Chris at firstname.lastname@example.org
